Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for the frosting)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for the frosting)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for the frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the dry ingredients.

  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  8. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely before frosting.

  9. To make the frosting, cream the softened butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition.

  10. Stir in the vanilla extract until the frosting is creamy and smooth.

  11. Once the cake has cooled, frost the top and sides with the French Vanilla Buttercream Frosting.

  12. Serve and enjoy!
