How To Make Canadian Flag Cake

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- Red food coloring
- Maple leaf stencil or template
- 1/4 cup icing sugar, for dusting
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

Divide the batter into two equal portions. Leave one portion plain and add red food coloring to the other portion until desired shade is reached.

Pour the plain batter into one side of the prepared pan and the red batter into the other side. Smooth the surface with a spatula.

Place the maple leaf stencil on top of the cake and dust the exposed area with icing sugar. Carefully remove the stencil.

Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely before serving.
