Preparation: 5 minutes
Cooking: 35 minutes
Total: 40 minutes

For the Oats:

  • 2tbspunsalted butter,or coconut oil
  • cupssteel cut oats
  • cupswater
  • 1granny smith apple,or other firm apple, peeled and diced, large
  • ¼cupbrown sugar,or maple syrup
  • 1tspground cinnamon
  • ¾tspsalt

For Serving:

  • butter
  • brown sugar,or maple syrup
  • ¾cupnuts, toasted, chopped, pecans, or walnuts

  1. Select the Sauté setting on your electric pressure cooker and melt the butter. Add the oats and cook, stirring often, for about 5 minutes, until the oats are aromatic and lightly toasted.

  2. Stir the water, apple, brown sugar or maple syrup, cinnamon, and salt into the oats, making sure all of the oats are submerged in the liquid.

  3. Secure the lid on the pressure cooker, making sure that the pressure release is set to its sealing position.

  4. Cancel the Sauté program, then select your pressure cooker’s Manual setting and set the cooking time for 12 minutes at high pressure.

  5. When the cooking program ends, let the pressure release naturally for at least 10 minutes then move the Pressure Release to Venting to release any remaining steam. Open the pot and stir the oatmeal to incorporate any extra liquid.

  6. Ladle the oatmeal into bowls and top with butter, brown sugar, or maple syrup, and chopped nuts.
