How To Make Chocolate Covered Bacon Bites

Get in on the sweet and salty trend with these bacon bites. Crispy slices of bacon are coated in chocolate for some perfectly balanced flavors.

Ingredients

  • 16ozbacon,thick cut
  • 1cupsemi-sweet chocolate chips,or 6 oz chopped chocolate
  • 2tspvegetable shortening
  • 2ozwhite chocolate candy melts
  • chopped pistachios,for garnish, or almonds, pecans or peanuts, orange zest, toffee bits, sea salt, brown sugar, red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper, toasted coconut, sprinkles as optional coatings

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Align bacon in a single layer on rimmed baking sheets.

  2. Bake in preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes until crisp. Remove from oven and transfer bacon to a baking sheet lined with paper towels and cool.

  3. Cut bacon into 2-inch pieces, set aside. Remove paper towels from baking sheet and line baking sheet with wax paper.

  4. Place chocolate chips and vegetable shortening in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in microwave on 50% power in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval until melted and smooth.

  5. Dip bacon in melted chocolate and allow excess chocolate to run off, then transfer to the wax paper-lined baking sheet, aligning coated pieces in a single layer.

  6. Transfer chocolate-coated bacon to the refrigerator and allow to chill for about 15 minutes, or until chocolate has set.

  7. Place white chocolate candy melts in a microwave safe bowl and heat in microwave on 50% power in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval until melted and smooth.

  8. Transfer mixture to a small resealable bag, and cut a small tip off of one corner. Drizzle melted white chocolate coating over chocolate-covered bacon.

  9. Transfer to refrigerator until white chocolate has set. Store in refrigerator in an airtight container.
