How To Make Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup fresh bread crumbs
  • 1 tbsp parsley dried
  • 1 tbsp Parmesan cheese grated
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • tsp garlic powder
  • 1 egg beaten

For the Spaghetti Sauce:

  • ¾ cup onion chopped
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 56 oz whole tomatoes peeled
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp white sugar
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • ¾ tsp basil dried
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper


  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, parsley, Parmesan cheese, black pepper, garlic powder and beaten egg.

  2. Mix well and form into 12 balls.
  3. Store, covered, in refrigerator until needed.

  4. In a large saucepan over medium heat, saute onion and garlic in olive oil until onion is translucent.
  5. Stir in tomatoes, salt, sugar and bay leaf.
  6. Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer 90 minutes.
  7. Stir in tomato paste, basil, black pepper and meatballs and simmer 30 minutes more.

  8. Serve with cooked spaghetti.
