Cooking: 30 minutes
Total: 45 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, garlic, parsley, salt, pepper, allspice, and nutmeg. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

  2. Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.

  4. In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and cook until browned and tender, about 5 minutes.

  5. Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and stir to coat them evenly. Cook for 1 minute.

  6. Gradually whisk in the beef broth and bring to a simmer. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  7. Stir in the heavy cream and add the meatballs back to the skillet. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes, until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.

  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve the Swedish meatballs with a ladle of creamy mushroom sauce on top. Garnish with fresh parsley.
