Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 12 minutes
Total: 27 minutes

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for dusting)

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, and salt.

  3. Add the cold cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and vanilla extract. Gradually pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead it a few times until it comes together into a smooth ball.

  6. Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a cookie cutter to cut out your desired shapes. Place the biscuits onto the prepared baking sheet.

  7. Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden brown on the edges.

  8. Remove from the oven and transfer the biscuits to a wire rack to cool completely.

  9. Once cooled, dust the biscuits with powdered sugar before serving.
