How To Make Congo Bars

Make a fresh batch of everyone’s favorite dessert! With these cookie recipes, you can bake all kinds of different sweet treats. Make a classic snack with chocolate chip cookies. Or, switch it up by adding nuts, raisins, and other ingredients to keep things interesting.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp of baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp of salt
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup of packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. In a separate large bowl, mix the melted butter and brown sugar until well combined.

  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until smooth.

  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, stirring until just combined.

  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts (if using).

  7. Spread the batter evenly into a greased 9×9-inch baking dish.

  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  9. Allow the Congo Bars to cool completely before cutting into squares.

  10. Serve and enjoy!
