Sautéed shrimp and chickpeas unexpectedly make a great pair in this Mediterranean classic that takes only 7 ingredients to whip up.

  • 1tspextra virgin olive oil
  • 2clovesgarlic,sliced thin
  • 10ozharissa sauce,1 jar mild, Mina
  • 15ozchickpeas or white beans,2cans, rinsed and drained
  • 1lbjumbo shrimp,peeled and deveined
  • ½oflemon,juiced
  • 4tbspmint and/or cilantro,each, chopped
  • bread,crusty, optional for serving


  1. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

  2. When hot add the garlic, and cook to nearly golden for about 1 minute.

  3. Reduce heat to low and add the harissa, ¼ cup water and chickpeas.

  4. Bring to a boil and cover. Simmer on medium-low 5 minutes to let the flavors meld.

  5. Add the shrimp, cover and cook until the shrimp are cooked through and no longer opaque, about 2 to 3 minutes.

  6. Squeeze with lemon juice and garnish with chopped herbs. Divide in 4 bowls.
