For this recipe, we recommend using pork shoulders because it is perfect for roasting. Ask your butcher about pork shoulders and they’ll tell you that pork shoulders are relatively tough. This is because it has a nice proportion of fat and muscle which is good for great slow-cooked dishes.

To have this absolutely delicious pork roast recipe, you will need an oven. Of course, roasting the pork alone will not result in a completely awesome meal. Apply generous amounts of garlic powder to your pork and let the chicken broth do its wonders. If you want the dish to be spicy, sprinkle some chili powder or brush some chili sauce. We recommend using Thai chilies and jalapeno peppers to have that explosive taste.

  • 5 lbs pork shoulder, or butt
  • 1 head garlic cloves, peeled
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • tsp Garlic powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste


  1. Season the pork with the garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Place it in a large pan and pour in the chicken broth and add the garlic cloves.
  3. Roast at 325 degrees F for 3 ½ hours.
  4. Let the roast sit for 40 minutes.
  5. Preheat your oven to 475 degrees F and continue to cook the roast for an additional 20 minutes.

It is important for the meat to rest first after roasting because it will need to absorb the moisture back to the meat fibers. That way, it will stay juicy and moist even after being cooked in the oven.
