How To Make Cranberry Mulled Wine

This mulled wine recipe produces a steaming cup for cold nights! It’s a simmered mix of fresh ginger, mulling spices, and refreshing citrus slices.

Ingredients

  • 750mldry red wine,(1 bottle)
  • 1cupcranberry juice
  • cupbrandy,optional
  • 1orange,sliced into rounds
  • 8whole cloves
  • 2cinnamon sticks
  • 2star anise
  • fresh ginger,2-inch knob, halved lengthwise
  • 6tbspsweetener,(maple syrup, sugar, or honey), to taste

For Optional Garnishes:

  • orange slices
  • fresh cranberries
  • cinnamon sticks
  • fresh rosemary

Instructions

  1. Add the wine, cranberry juice, brandy, orange slices, cloves, cinnamon, star anise, ginger, and 2 tablespoons of sweetener to a large saucepan. Stir briefly to combine.

  2. Cook the mulled wine on medium-high heat until it just barely reaches a simmer. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let the wine simmer for about 15 minutes or up to 3 hours.

  3. Using a fine mesh strainer, remove and discard the orange slices, cloves, cinnamon sticks, star anise, and ginger. Give the mulled wine a taste, and stir in extra sweetener, if needed.

  4. Serve warm in heat-proof mugs, topped with orange slices, fresh cranberries, cinnamon sticks, or fresh rosemary, and enjoy!
