How To Make Tostones (Twice Air Fried Plantains)

This tostones recipe is also known as fried green plantains. Cooked in an ait-fryer, this tostones recipe is healthier and easy to make too.

Preparation: 5 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 25 minutes



  • 1large green plantain,ends trimmed and peeled, 6 ounces after
  • olive oil spray
  • 1cupwater
  • 1tspkosher salt
  • ¾tspgarlic powder


  1. With a sharp knife, cut a slit along the length of the plantain skin. Cut the plantain into 1-inch pieces having 8 in total.

  2. In a small bowl, combine the water with salt and garlic powder.

  3. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F.

  4. When ready, spritz the plantain with olive oil and cook for 6 minutes.

  5. Remove from the air fryer and while they are hot, mash them with a tostonera or the bottom of a jar or measuring cup to flatten.

  6. Dip them in the seasoned water and set aside.

  7. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F once again and cook in batches for 5 minutes on each side while spraying both sides of the plantains with olive oil.

  8. When done, give them another spritz of oil and season with salt. Eat right away.
