  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 quarts water
  • 14 slices ginger root
  • 4 cups lemon juice


  1. Combine sugar, water, and ginger root in a pan.

  2. Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally.

  3. Remove from heat.

  4. Stir in lemon juice.

  5. Cool for about 15 minutes.

  6. Remove the ginger.

  7. Pour into a covered pitcher and chill for at least 1 hour.

  8. Serve with ice.
