  • 300g all-purpose flour
  • 150g cold butter, cubed
  • 3 tbsp cold water
  • 400g golden syrup
  • 2 tsp lemon zest
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 100g breadcrumbs
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. In a large bowl, rub the cold butter into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

  3. Add the cold water and mix until the dough comes together.

  4. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and cut out heart shapes using a cookie cutter.

  5. In a separate bowl, mix together the golden syrup, lemon zest, and lemon juice.

  6. Place a tablespoon of breadcrumbs in the center of each heart shape.

  7. Spoon the golden syrup mixture over the breadcrumbs, making sure to cover them completely.

  8. Place the tart hearts on a lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

  9. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.

  10. Serve the treacle tart hearts warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
