How To Make Sausage and Peppers

This sausage recipe is an easy dinner menu for a weeknight party. The sausage is tucked inside a soft Italian roll topped with cheese for a cheesier taste.

  • 2tbspolive oil
  • 1lbItalian Sausage
  • 1cupwater
  • 2tbspbutter
  • 2bell peppers ,large, green, red, or orange
  • 1onion
  • ½tspitalian seasoning
  • 2garlic cloves
  • cupwhite wine,or beer
  • 14ozdiced tomatoes,optional


  1. Heat olive oil over medium heat. Brown sausages on all sides. Add water, cover, and simmer for 10 to 12 minutes.

  2. Remove lid, remove sausages, and set aside. Discard any remaining water.

  3. Add butter, Italian seasoning, and onions to the pan. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes stirring until onions are slightly softened. Add peppers and cook for 2 minutes.

  4. Add garlic, wine, tomatoes if using, and sausage. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until peppers are tender and sausages reach 160 degrees F.

  5. Top with a sprinkle of fresh herbs if desired.
