Pennsylvania Dutch Funny Cake Recipe

Like a pie-cake hybrid, this dessert is satisfactorily sweet.

A delicious recipe for Dutch funny cake with its moist cake filling atop a crispy pie crust and a rich chocolate layer to die for. It might not leave you laughing out loud but surely would bring out a smile from anyone who tastes this.

Ingredients

For Filling:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

For Cake:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • ½ cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¾ tsp vanilla
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 2 pie shells, 9 inches, (unbaked)

Instructions

  1. Mix filling ingredients, and bring to a boil, slowly.
  2. Set aside.
  3. Cream 2 cups of sugar with butter; add eggs.

  4. Sift dry ingredients together and add to batter alternately with milk to which vanilla has been added.
  5. Pour filling into pie shells.
  6. Cover with cake batter.
  7. Place in 400 degree F oven.

  8. Cook for 10 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 degrees F and continue baking until done.
