Cooking: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total: 1 hour 40 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 (3-4 pound) pork shoulder or butt roast
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp cold water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.

  2. In a small bowl, mix together the maple syrup, bourbon, soy sauce, garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper.

  3. Place the pork roast in a roasting pan or Dutch oven.

  4. Pour the maple-bourbon glaze over the pork, making sure it covers the entire roast.

  5. Cover the roasting pan or Dutch oven with foil or a lid and roast for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

  6. Remove the foil or lid and continue to roast for another 15 minutes, until the pork is browned and caramelized on top.

  7. Remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

  8. While the pork is resting, pour the pan juices into a small saucepan and bring to a simmer.

  9. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water until smooth.

  10. Gradually whisk the cornstarch mixture into the pan juices and cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.

  11. Slice the pork roast and serve with the maple-bourbon glaze and pan sauce.
