How To Make Mongolian Hot Pot Recipe

A flavorful soup filled with thinly sliced meats, fresh vegetables, and noodles, cooked in a spicy broth.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb thinly sliced beef
  • 1 lb thinly sliced lamb
  • 8 cups of water
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 2 tbsp Sichuan peppercorns
  • 2 star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tbsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 cups sliced shiitake mushrooms
  • 2 cups sliced cabbage
  • 2 cups sliced carrots
  • 2 cups baby bok choy, halved
  • 1 cup sliced green onions
  • 1 package of Chinese noodles

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water to boil.

  2. Add in onion, garlic, ginger, Sichuan peppercorns, star anise, cinnamon stick, red pepper flakes, soy sauce, and brown sugar and let it simmer for 15 minutes.

  3. Add in beef and lamb slices and cook for 3-5 minutes until they are cooked through.

  4. Add in shiitake mushrooms, cabbage, carrots, bok choy, and green onions and cook for another 5 minutes until vegetables are tender.

  5. Cook Chinese noodles according to the package instruction and add it to the pot.

  6. Serve hot with ladles and chopsticks.
