How To Make Upma
This upma recipe teaches you how to make a South Indian dish that’s typically eaten for breakfast. This version mixes semolina with carrots and peas.

Ingredients
- ½tbspolive oil
- ¼tspindian mustard seed
- ½tspurad dal
- 5curry leaves
- ¼cuponion,diced
- ¼cupcarrot,finely shredded
- ¼cupfrozen green peas
- ½cupfine semolina
- ¾tspsalt
- ¼cupplain yogurt
- roasted cashews or cashew nuts,fried, for optional garnish
Instructions

Heat the oil in a large nonstick pan. Add the mustard seeds and urad dal. Once the seeds start to pop, add the curry leaves.

Quickly add the onions and stir to let the onions soften. Add the carrots and peas and stir for a few more minutes.

Add the semolina and 1½ cups of water and salt. Stir as it thickens keeping the heat to medium. This should only take a minute.

Once it is getting thicker, stir in the yogurt and remove from the heat.

Garnish with cashews and serve immediately.
