How To Make Vodka Sauce

Make this vodka sauce creamy by adding heavy cream to become a nice backdrop to the sweet, spicy, and sour flavors and the nice smooth kick from the vodka.

  • ½cupunsalted butter
  • 1yellow onion,chopped
  • ½tspkosher salt
  • ¼tspcoarse ground black pepper
  • ¼tspred pepper flakes,crushed
  • 1cupvodka
  • 56oztomatoes,canned,crushed
  • 2cupsheavy cream


  1. Melt butter in dutch oven on medium heat with onions, salt, pepper and crushed red pepper flakes on medium heat.

  2. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes until onions just start to caramelize.

  3. Add in vodka and cook for 15 minutes.

  4. Add in the crushed tomatoes and stir well until butter is mixed in.

  5. Bring to a boil on high heat then reduce back to medium heat and cook for 30 minutes.

  6. Stir in heavy cream and cook an additional 30 minutes.
