Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs pork shoulder, cut into cubes
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 green onions, chopped
- Steamed rice, for serving
Instructions

Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the pork shoulder and cook until browned on all sides.

Add the sliced onion, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, chicken broth, brown sugar, five-spice powder, salt, and black pepper. Pour the mixture into the pot with the pork.

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover the pot and let simmer for 1.5-2 hours, or until the pork is tender and cooked through.

Serve the Chinese pork over steamed rice and garnish with chopped green onions.
