How To Make Spicy Fish Soup

  • 1 lb white fish fillets, cut into chunks
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 oz)
  • 4 cups fish or vegetable broth
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish
  • Lime wedges, for serving


  1. In a large pot, heat some olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions, garlic, and peppers. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.

  2. Add the diced tomatoes, fish broth, and spices to the pot. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  3. Gently add the fish chunks to the pot. Cook for about 10 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.

  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  5. Ladle the soup into bowls and garnish with fresh cilantro. Serve with lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the soup.
