How To Make Homemade Lox Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh salmon fillet, skin on
  • 1/4 cup kosher salt
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped fresh dill

Instructions

  1. Rinse the salmon fillet and pat it dry with paper towels.

  2. In a small bowl, mix together the salt, sugar, black pepper, and dill.

  3. Place the salmon on a large piece of plastic wrap.

  4. Sprinkle the salt mixture evenly over the salmon, making sure to cover all sides.

  5. Wrap the salmon tightly in the plastic wrap and place it in a shallow dish.

  6. Place a heavy object, such as a can, on top of the wrapped salmon to weigh it down.

  7. Refrigerate the salmon for 48 hours, flipping it halfway through.

  8. After 48 hours, remove the salmon from the plastic wrap and rinse off the excess salt mixture.

  9. Pat the salmon dry and thinly slice it.

  10. Serve the homemade lox on bagels or crackers with cream cheese and any desired toppings.
