Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking dish.

  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and 1/4 cup of sugar.

  3. In a separate bowl, combine melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined.

  4. In a small saucepan, heat maple syrup, water, and remaining 1/4 cup of sugar over medium heat until it starts to boil. Let it simmer for 5 minutes.

  5. Pour the maple syrup sauce into the greased baking dish. Drop spoonfuls of the batter on top of the sauce.

  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the sauce is bubbling.

  7. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
