How To Make Classic Chinese Chow Mein

This chow mein recipe will help you make an almost authentic recreation of this traditional Chinese noodle dish. The best part is it’s done in 20 minutes.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2tbspcanola oil
  • ¼cabbage head,thinly sliced
  • 2garlic cloves,crushed and minced
  • 2tbspsweet soy sauce,aka Kecap Manis
  • 2tbspsoy sauce
  • 4tbspoyster sauce
  • 1cupwater
  • 12ozchow mein noodles,cooked a minute shy of the directions
  • 6ozbean sprouts,optional
  • sesame seeds,for garnish, optional

Instructions

  1. Heat a large pan or wok on high heat.

  2. Add 2 tablespoons of canola oil to the pan and cook the cabbage.

  3. Cook 2 to 3 minutes until wilted, then add the garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds.

  4. Add the soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, oyster sauce and water and bring to a boil for 1 minute.

  5. Add in the noodles and bean sprouts and toss to coat.

  6. Serve immediately
