How To Make Healthy Beef Chow Mein

A delicious and nutritious dish packed with tender beef, crunchy vegetables, and flavorful sauce.

  • 8 ounces of whole wheat chow mein noodles
  • 1 pound of lean beef, sliced into thin strips
  • 2 tablespoons of low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon of grated ginger
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup of sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup of snow peas
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup of water


  1. Cook the chow mein noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil. Set aside.

  3. Heat a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the beef and stir-fry until browned, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.

  4. In the same skillet, add the garlic and ginger, and stir-fry for 1 minute. Add the bell pepper, mushrooms, snow peas, and green onions. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, or until the vegetables are crisp-tender.

  5. Return the beef to the skillet and pour in the sauce mixture. Stir well to coat everything evenly. Cook for an additional 2 minutes.

  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water to make a slurry. Pour the slurry into the skillet and stir well. Cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.

  7. Add the cooked chow mein noodles to the skillet and toss everything together until well combined.

  8. Serve the healthy beef chow mein hot and enjoy!
