Preparation: 30 minutes
Cooking: 40 minutes
Total: 1 hour 10 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¼ cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup chocolate cookie crumbs
  • 8 chocolate sandwich cookies
  • 1 cup gummy worms
  • 1 cup candy bones
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • Green food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch cake pan.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. Add in the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.

  4. Stir in the boiling water, mixing until the batter is well combined. The batter will be thin.

  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

  7. Once the cake is completely cooled, crumble it into a large mixing bowl.

  8. In a separate small bowl, mix together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Add a few drops of green food coloring to create a ghostly green glaze.

  9. Pour the green glaze over the crumbled cake and mix until well combined, creating a thick, brownie-like mixture.

  10. Press the cake mixture into the bottom of a clean, greased 9×13-inch pan, creating an even layer.

  11. Sprinkle the chocolate cookie crumbs over the cake mixture to represent the graveyard dirt.

  12. Place the chocolate sandwich cookies upright into the cake mixture to resemble tombstones.

  13. Decorate the cake with gummy worms and candy bones, arranging them to create a spooky graveyard scene.

  14. Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving to allow it to set.

  15. Slice and serve your delicious and spooky Haunted Graveyard Cake!
