Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup hot water
Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking sheet.

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, spices, and salt.

In a separate large bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

Stir in molasses and hot water until well combined.

Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just blended.

Divide dough into four equal portions. Roll out each portion on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.

Use Halloween-themed cookie cutters to cut out gingerbread shapes and place on prepared baking sheet.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until edges are set and slightly golden.

Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Decorate with icing or colored sugar, if desired.
