Mashed Potatoes and Steak Casserole Recipe

With this old country classic mashed potato casserole, you can enjoy a simple yet flavorful savory steak. You can find creamy mashed potatoes on top. And it only takes 30 minutes to bake the casserole!

How To Make Mashed Potatoes and Steak Casserole

Mashed potatoes make up more than half of this dish. But they are well-seasoned with a taste of creaminess. Not to mention some tasty chuck steak bits.

  • 3 lb. potatoes (peeled and quartered)
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 cup milk (warm)
  • ¼ stick butter (room temperature)
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 lbs boneless chuck steak (cubed)
  • 2 garlic cloves (chopped)
  • 1 cup onion (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cup beef broth
  • 3 tbsp. parsley
  • salt
  • pepper (to taste)
  1. Preheat oven at 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large pot, boil mashed potatoes in salted water for 30 minutes.
  3. Drain and then mash with butter, milk and sour cream. Set aside.
  4. In a large saucepan over medium heat, add oil and sear steak for 2 minutes.
  5. Add garlic and onions.
  6. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. When meat is browned, dust with flour.
  8. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Stir often.
  9. Pour in broth and cook for 2 minutes until mixture starts to thicken.
  10. Transfer meat mixture to 9-by-13-inch casserole.

  11. Spread mashed potatoes on top.
  12. Bake for about 30 minutes and serve warm.
