Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 (12-14 lb) turkey
  • 1/4 cup paprika
  • 2 tbsp dried thyme
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp onion powder
  • 2 tbsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Rinse the turkey and pat it dry with paper towels.

  2. In a small bowl, combine paprika, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt to create the rub.

  3. Generously rub the spice mixture all over the turkey, making sure to cover both the exterior and interior.

  4. Allow the turkey to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.

  5. Meanwhile, heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 350°F (175°C).

  6. Carefully lower the turkey into the hot oil, using a turkey holder or a deep-fryer basket.

  7. Cook the turkey for approximately 3-4 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

  8. Once cooked, carefully remove the turkey from the oil and let it rest for 20 minutes before carving.

  9. Serve the deep-fried turkey as desired.
