How To Make Smothered Pork Chops in the Oven

  • 4 pork chops
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp thyme


  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Season the pork chops with salt and pepper.

  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the pork chops on both sides until golden brown. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

  4. In the same skillet, add the sliced onion, mushrooms, and minced garlic. Cook until the mushrooms are golden and the onions are soft.

  5. Sprinkle the flour over the mushroom mixture and stir well. Cook for 2 minutes, until the flour is cooked.

  6. Gradually add the chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme to the skillet. Stir well to combine.

  7. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes, until the gravy has thickened.

  8. Place the browned pork chops in a baking dish and pour the mushroom gravy over them.

  9. Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, until the pork chops are tender and cooked through.

  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, until the gravy is bubbly and the pork chops are golden brown.

  11. Serve the smothered pork chops hot with the mushroom gravy spooned over the top.
