How To Make Zeppole

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized saucepan, bring the water, sugar, and salt to a boil over medium heat.

  2. Reduce the heat to low and slowly add in the flour, stirring constantly until the mixture forms a ball.

  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.

  4. Beat the eggs in a separate bowl and gradually add them to the dough, stirring well after each addition.

  5. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to about 375°F (190°C).

  6. Drop spoonfuls of the dough into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, turning them occasionally to cook evenly.

  7. Remove the zeppole from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  8. Sprinkle generously with powdered sugar and serve warm.
