How To Make Walleye Chowder Recipe

A creamy and hearty fish soup with chunks of tender walleye and diced potatoes.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb walleye fillets, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 4 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup corn kernels
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, cook bacon until crisp. Remove from pot and set aside.

  2. Add butter to pot and sauté onion and garlic until softened.

  3. Sprinkle flour over onion mixture and stir until combined.

  4. Pour in chicken broth, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens.

  5. Add diced potatoes and cook until tender.

  6. Add walleye pieces and corn kernels, and cook until fish is opaque and cooked through.

  7. Pour in heavy cream and bacon pieces. Stir well and heat through.

  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  9. Serve hot with crusty bread.
