Ingredients

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • tsp salt
  • cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 1 pc egg
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 5 cups vegetable oil, (up to 8 cups)

For Coating:

  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 3 tbsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough first. Sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.

  2. In a separate bowl, combine the sugar, sour cream, egg, and butter. Whisk until pale and smooth, roughly 5 to 7 minutes.

  3. Fold in the flour mixture until a dough forms.

  4. Cover the bowl and chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.

  5. Preheat your frying oil to 350 degrees F. Prepare a basket lined with paper towels.

  6. Portion your dough into 1 to 1½ ounce balls using an ice cream scooper.

  7. Deep fry the dough in batches until golden brown, roughly 5 minutes. Drain onto your prepared basket.

  8. Stir to combine your ingredients for the coating.

  9. While the doughnuts are still warm, toss these into your coating mixture. Serve immediately.
