How To Make Welsh Rarebit

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread
  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup beer or milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. Toast the bread slices until golden brown.

  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour to form a paste.

  4. Add the mustard and Worcestershire sauce to the paste, stirring until combined.

  5. Slowly whisk in the beer or milk, stirring constantly until the sauce is smooth.

  6. Remove the saucepan from the heat and gradually add the grated cheese, stirring until melted and smooth.

  7. Season the cheese sauce with salt and pepper to taste.

  8. Place the toasted bread slices on a baking sheet and spoon the cheese sauce over each slice.

  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese sauce is bubbly and golden brown.

  10. Serve the Welsh rarebit hot, garnished with chopped chives or parsley.
