How To Make Classic cheese scones

Delicious and cheesy scones perfect for any occasion.

Preparation: 10 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 30 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup grated cheese (cheddar or any of your choice)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. Stir in the grated cheese.

  4. Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the milk. Stir until just combined and a soft dough forms.

  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently a few times until smooth.

  6. Roll out the dough to about 1 inch (2.5 cm) thickness and cut into rounds using a 2-inch (5 cm) cookie cutter.

  7. Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each.

  8. Brush the tops of the scones with the beaten egg.

  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.

  10. Serve warm and enjoy!
