How To Make Classic cheese scones
Delicious and cheesy scones perfect for any occasion.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup grated cheese (cheddar or any of your choice)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg, beaten
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
-
Stir in the grated cheese.
-
Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the milk. Stir until just combined and a soft dough forms.
-
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently a few times until smooth.
-
Roll out the dough to about 1 inch (2.5 cm) thickness and cut into rounds using a 2-inch (5 cm) cookie cutter.
-
Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each.
-
Brush the tops of the scones with the beaten egg.
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
-
Serve warm and enjoy!
