How To Make Welsh Cakes
Delicious traditional Welsh cakes, perfectly spiced and buttery.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup caster sugar
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
- 1/2 cup currants or raisins
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1-2 tbsp milk
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions

In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

Rub in the cold butter until it resembles breadcrumbs.

Stir in the currants/raisins.

Add the beaten egg and mix until the dough comes together.

Add milk if needed to make a soft dough.

Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.

Use a round cookie cutter to cut out Welsh cakes.

Heat a griddle or non-stick skillet over medium heat.

Cook the Welsh cakes for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.

Remove from heat and dust with powdered sugar.

Serve warm or at room temperature.
