How To Make Masala Dosa Recipe

South Indian breakfast staple with crispy, golden crepe made from rice and lentils, filled with spicy potato filling.

Preparation: 8 hours (for fermentation)
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 8 hours 20 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of rice
  • 1/2 cup of urad dal
  • 1/2 cup of chana dal
  • 1/2 tsp of fenugreek seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required
  • 4-5 boiled potatoes, mashed
  • 2 tbsp of oil
  • 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • A few curry leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required

Instructions

  1. Rinse and soak rice and dal separately for at least 4-5 hours.

  2. Add fenugreek seeds to the dal before grinding to a smooth batter.

  3. Mix both the batters, add salt and water as required and allow it to ferment overnight or for 8 hours.

  4. Heat a pan and grease it with oil.

  5. Pour a ladleful of batter and spread it in a circular motion to make a thin crepe.

  6. Add a spoonful of potato filling in the center, roll and serve hot with chutney and sambar.
