How To Make Gulab Jamun Recipe

A classic Indian dessert made of deep-fried dough balls soaked in sweet syrup.

Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 30 minutes
Total: 45 minutes

  • 1 cup milk powder
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • Oil for deep frying
  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1 tsp rose water

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine milk powder, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and cardamom powder. Mix well.

  2. Add ghee and milk to the mixture. Use a spoon or your hands to form a soft and smooth dough.

  3. Divide the dough into small portions and shape them into smooth balls. Avoid applying too much pressure while shaping.

  4. Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the dough balls and fry them until golden brown. Drain the excess oil on a kitchen paper.

  5. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, and cardamom powder. Let it simmer on medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely. Add rose water and stir well.

  6. Add the fried dough balls to the syrup and let it soak for at least 30 minutes.

  7. Serve hot or cold with some syrup.
