  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.

  3. Gradually whisk in the milk, salt, and black pepper. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.

  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish. Pour half of the sauce over the potatoes.

  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes and sauce. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top.

  6. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
