Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.

  2. Shape the mixture into 4 oval-shaped patties.

  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 5-6 minutes per side, or until they are browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

  4. In the same skillet, pour in the beef broth and bring it to a boil. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water until it forms a smooth paste. Slowly pour the cornstarch mixture into the boiling broth, stirring constantly. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the gravy has thickened.

  5. Return the Salisbury steaks to the skillet and spoon the gravy over them. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

  6. Serve the Salisbury steaks hot, accompanied by mashed potatoes or rice, and your favorite vegetables.
