How To Make Chef John’s Salisbury Steak Recipe

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, onions, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

  2. Shape the mixture into 4 oval-shaped patties.

  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side, until browned.

  4. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

  5. In the same skillet, whisk together the beef broth and cornstarch. Bring to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes, until thickened.

  6. Return the patties to the skillet and simmer in the gravy for another 10-15 minutes, until cooked through.

  7. Serve the Salisbury steaks with the gravy on top.
