How To Make Salisbury Steak Recipe

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup diced onions
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced


  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, diced onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. Shape the mixture into 4 oval-shaped patties.

  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

  4. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the onions from the skillet.

  5. In a small saucepan, heat the beef broth over medium heat. Stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook until the gravy thickens, about 2-3 minutes.

  6. Return the patties and caramelized onions to the skillet with the gravy. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

  7. Serve the Salisbury steak with the gravy and onions on top.
