Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon of active dry yeast
- 2/3 cup of warm water
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 cup of canned crushed tomatoes
- 8 ounces of fresh mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced
- Fresh basil leaves
Instructions
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Mix well.
-
Gradually add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
-
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
-
Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, until doubled in size.
-
Preheat the oven to 500°F (260°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
-
Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a thin round pizza crust.
-
Place the pizza crusts on parchment paper or a lightly greased baking sheet.
-
Spread a thin layer of crushed tomatoes on each crust, leaving a small border around the edges.
-
Top the tomatoes with fresh mozzarella slices and scatter fresh basil leaves on top.
-
Transfer the pizzas (with parchment paper if using) to the preheated oven or pizza stone, and bake for 8-10 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
-
Remove from the oven and let the pizzas cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
