Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 10 minutes
Total: 25 minutes

  • 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon of active dry yeast
  • 2/3 cup of warm water
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 cup of canned crushed tomatoes
  • 8 ounces of fresh mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced
  • Fresh basil leaves

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast. Mix well.

  2. Gradually add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a sticky dough forms.

  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, until doubled in size.

  5. Preheat the oven to 500°F (260°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.

  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a thin round pizza crust.

  7. Place the pizza crusts on parchment paper or a lightly greased baking sheet.

  8. Spread a thin layer of crushed tomatoes on each crust, leaving a small border around the edges.

  9. Top the tomatoes with fresh mozzarella slices and scatter fresh basil leaves on top.

  10. Transfer the pizzas (with parchment paper if using) to the preheated oven or pizza stone, and bake for 8-10 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  11. Remove from the oven and let the pizzas cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
