How To Make Doughnut Dough
This is a recipe for homemade doughnut dough that can be fried or baked to make delicious doughnuts.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg
Instructions
-
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
-
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the yeast mixture, melted butter, vanilla extract, and egg. Mix until a dough forms.
-
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
-
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
-
After the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles and roll it out to a 1/2 inch thickness.
-
Use a doughnut cutter or a drinking glass to cut out doughnuts from the rolled dough.
-
Place the doughnuts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or in a greased doughnut pan. Let them rest for 10 minutes to rise again.
-
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) or heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot.
-
If baking, bake the doughnuts for 10-12 minutes until golden brown. If frying, carefully drop the doughnuts into the hot oil and fry for 1-2 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and cooked through.
-
Once cooked, remove the doughnuts from the oven or fryer and let them cool on a wire rack.
-
Enjoy the homemade doughnuts as they are or glaze them with your favorite toppings like powdered sugar, chocolate ganache, or cinnamon sugar.
