Total: 50 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup Grape Nuts cereal
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease a 9-inch baking dish.

  2. In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until scalded (just before boiling point). Remove from heat.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, vanilla extract, eggs, and salt.

  4. Slowly pour the scalded milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.

  5. Stir in the Grape Nuts cereal and let the mixture sit for 10 minutes.

  6. Pour the custard mixture into the greased baking dish.

  7. Place the dish in a larger baking pan and fill the larger pan with hot water, about halfway up the sides of the custard dish.

  8. Carefully transfer the pans to the preheated oven and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the custard is set around the edges but still slightly jiggly in the center.

  9. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
