It is best to cut the brownie into smaller squares because of the dense texture.

Classic Dense Brownies with Powdered Sugar Recipe

  • 3 oz unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 ⅓ cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup flour
  • Powdered sugar to sprinkle on top


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. Prepare 8x8 inch pan. Line with parchment and grease.

  3. In a double boiler, melt chocolate and butter.

  4. Stir until completely smooth and then remove from heat.

  5. Whisk in sugar, eggs, vanilla, and salt.
  6. Stir in flour. Make sure not to overmix.

  7. Spread batter into pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. If you stick a toothpick in the cake, it should come out clean.

  8. Allow it to cool completely. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and cut into squares before serving.
