How To Make Chinese Tofu and Black Bean Sauce Recipe

A savory vegetarian dish with a bold flavor from fermented black beans.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 block of firm tofu, cubed
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 2 tbsp fermented black beans, rinsed and mashed
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Green onions, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a wok or pan and sauté garlic and ginger until fragrant.

  2. Add fermented black beans, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar and water. Stir well.

  3. Add tofu and simmer for 5 minutes.

  4. Pour in the cornstarch mixture and cook for 2 minutes until the sauce thickens.

  5. Season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle chopped green onions if desired.

  6. Serve hot with rice.
