How To Make Furr’s Cafeteria Macaroni and Cheese

A classic comfort food made of cheesy, gooey macaroni.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook macaroni according to package instructions, drain and set aside.

  2. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.

  3. Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring continuously.

  4. Gradually stir in milk and cream, whisking constantly until mixture comes to a simmer.

  5. Stir in mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt and pepper.

  6. Add 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheese and stir until melted and combined.

  7. Pour cheese sauce over cooked macaroni and stir to combine.

  8. Pour macaroni and cheese mixture into a greased baking dish.

  9. Sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheese on top.

  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
