Simple Rosemary-Sage Bread Recipe

This fresh and fragrant bread is a great companion for soups and can also be used for dipping or as a base for an open-faced turkey sandwich.

How To Make Simple Rosemary-Sage Bread

  • 1 tbsp white sugar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 0.25 oz active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp fresh rosemary (finely diced)
  • 2 tbsp fresh sage (finely diced)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter (softened)
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 can non-stick olive oil spray
  1. In a medium-sized bowl, dissolve the sugar in 1 cup of warm water and mix in the yeast. Once the yeast turns foamy, mix in the butter, rosemary, and sage.
  2. In a large bowl, mix 3 cups of bread flour and salt. Gradually add the wet mixture to the large bowl and knead the overall mixture for about 10 to 12 minutes. Make sure to keep the dough moist.
  3. Generously spray the inside of a clean large bowl with olive oil. Place the kneaded dough in the bowl, cover it with a towel, and allow the dough to rise for 1 hour in a warm area.
  4. After 1 hour, punch the dough down, and divide it in half. Lightly spray the inside of 2 loaf pans with olive oil, then shape the dough into 2 round loaves and place them inside the pans. Allow them to rise for an additional 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and bake the dough for 15 to 20 minutes until they turn golden brown.
  6. Take one loaf out of the oven and carefully remove it from the pan, tapping lightly on the bottom to check for a hollow sound. If no hollow sound is produced, continue baking and keep checking every few minutes.
  7. Once your loaves are done baking, allow them to cool 30 minutes. Afterward, let them sit on a wire rack for further cooling for another 30 minutes. Afterward, serve and enjoy!
